The Doors - Riders On The Storm (ORIGINAL!) - driving with Jim

(re-upload tanjadoor) facts & lyrics below: Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Into this house we're born Into this world we're thrown Like a dog without a bone An actor out alone Riders on the storm There's a killer on the road His brain is squirmin' like a toad Take a long holiday Let your children play If ya give this man a ride Sweet family will die Killer on the road, yeah Girl ya gotta love your man Girl ya gotta love your man Take him by the hand Make him understand The world on you depends Our life will never end Gotta love your man, yeah Wow! Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Into this house we're born Into this world we're thrown Like a dog without a bone An actor out alone Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Riders on the storm Riders on the storm "Riders On The Storm" was the last song recorded by the members of The Doors, according to Ray, as well as Jim´s last recorded song to be released (recorded December 1970 - January 1971 - released in June ´71). According to Robby, it was inspired by the song "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky: A Cowboy Legend." The song is played in the E Dorian mode, and incorporates real sound effects of thunder and rain, along with Ray´s Fender Rhodes electric piano playing, which emulates the sound of rain. The song was recorded at the Doors Workshop in December 1970 with the assistance of Bruce Botnick, their longtime engineer, who was co-producing the recording sessions. Jim recorded his main vocals and then whispered the lyrics over them to create the echo effect. The single was released in 1971, shortly before Jim´s death, entering the Hot 100 on 3 July 1971, the day that Jim died. The Doors' former producer, Paul Rothchild left prior to the sessions as he did not like the album, or the song, calling it "cocktail music". Their engineer Bruce Botnick was selected to produce the album instead. The band's drummer John Densmore wrote a 1990 book called Riders on the Storm, detailing the story of his life and his time with the group. Ray Manzarek and guitarist Roy Rogers covered this song as an instrumental duet on their 2008 album "Ballads Before the Rain". In November 2009, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame under the category Rock (track).

Met Morrison after a party in 1969 at 5 am in a house on Muholland Drive. Sunday morning I was leaving through the back door of a house with 2 friends and Morrison was at the kitchen table talking to a woman. He wasn't at the party the night before. I talked to him for 5 minutes. Told me his friend owned the house. Very articulate, very high and very funny. Talked about how he hated crowds of all things. Also at the party was David Crosby, Jack Nicholson and Tex Watson of the Manson family. What a wild time. I shipped out to Nam 2 weeks later.

Been in love with Jim Morrison since i was 8 , im 45 now and still in LOVE.
I grew up in a small village i Norway, Scandinavia, and bought a cassette on the bookstore: "The best of the Doors" in 1982. At the time i thought they were a new band, cause they didnt sound like anyone, and of course, Morrison looked modern at the time - at least on that cover from 1982. Immedeately I discovered that this was music beoynd time and geography. And it became the soundtrack for me and some other young rebels on the other side of the Atlantic :) And though I loved - and love - everything Doors did, this one along with some others is my favourite. (the obvious ones are the best, boring as it may be - the end, when the musics over, break on through, though some may differ to make them selves alternative). For me, Riders on the Storm is the best rock-track ever, number one over Beatles A day in the Life.

I graduated in June 1971, and Joined the marines!  I lived 1950's, 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, and feel lucky to be still strong and alive. what memories! hard to believe. what a different world in San Francisco back in the day.

I live in the city that Jim Morrison was born- Melbourne, Florida. :) There's a small motel down the street that's called "Riders on the Storm" with a picture of Jim on their sign. And his house is right downtown. It's very cool.

I dare say Jim was the probably the best American poet of the last 50 years. For those who like to read go ahead and read his biography "no one gets out of here alive". The life and talent this man had! Craziest story of all is that he was really shy, he didn't like facing the crowd for their first gigs at Whisky a GoGo, Sunset Boulevard, LA (does not exist any more). So for the first gigs he sang with his back to the crowd, making the Whiskey manager go crazy. When he started singing facing the crowd the girls went wild and the rest is history. I wish he was alive!!! He would have a lot to say nowadays. Was lucky enough to see Manzarek and Krieger live in 2004 with lead by Ian Astbury of The Cult.

Both my parents left the East and met each other on the West coast in 66. They heard things were "happening" out there. The music, the parties, the cars, the political atmosphere. Same for me in the 80's. We had to find the "party" or the "concert" or the roller staking rink or the fire in the woods where everyone was drinking. Long trips out the lake in the summer were amazing. Today, my children have instant social communication on demand. They have in-home entertainment. They have everything at their fingertips except the real tangible feeling of discovering people face to face. It's sad that today we know everything, but have experienced nothing.

I ABSOLUTELY love this song and Jim Morrison, but I still don't know.. he was hitchhiking, got picked up by the stranger. Did he kill the freakin' guy and steal his car?

1971 No millenials complaining about choking when you smoke in public. Awesome muscle cars rhat didnt have tight seats and annoying shoulder belts that will probably choke you before a cigarette would. Sports were still played tough without so many rules. Best of all the great music and THE DOORS!!!

Utterly Sublime!!!! 1971. I was sixteen years old when I first heard this song. I was caught hook, line and sinker. This song is so hauntingly beautiful and showed the power and charisma that permeated from this man. Jim Morrison. Another member of the 27 Club. So sad he was taken so early. We mustn't forget the loss of the talented Ray Manzarek. One of the best keyboardists ever. Brian Carruthers. Thank you so much for this video. A very appreciative Englishman.

So glad to have been a part of the world before cell phones, computers, video games, cable tv and the whole digital age. We've lost something in the process, a connection to the earth that I fear is gone forever. On the other hand, it's great to be alive in the information age, with all of the potential that comes with global communication at light speed. Thanks for sharing.

This is so deep.We all trust strangers from time to time. You see a person hitching a ride what do you do?There going the same direction as you it's only 23 miles. Then you're never heard or seen alive. But this person looks harmless you think to yourself....About 15 years ago a woman asked my father and I for a ride and she was very drunk...we ended up cleaning the backseat because she got sick, she had drugs on her.Never again..

According to Wikipedia…The Doors were an American rock band formed in 1965 in Los Angeles, with vocalist Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, guitarist Robby Krieger, and John Densmore on drums. The band got its name, at Morrison's suggestion[4] from the title of Aldous Huxley's book The Doors of Perception,[5] which itself was a reference to a quote made by William Blake, "If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite."[6] They were unique and among the most controversial and influential rock acts of the 1960s, mostly because of Morrison's lyrics and charismatic but unpredictable stage persona. After Morrison's death in 1971, the remaining members continued as a trio until disbanding in 1973.[7][8] The group signed with Elektra Records in 1966 and released its first album, The Doors, featuring the hit "Light My Fire", in 1967. The Doors released eight albums in five years. All but one hit the Top 10 on the Billboard 200 and went platinum or better. Their self-titled debut album (1967) was their first in a series of Top 10 albums in the United States, followed by Strange Days (also 1967), Waiting for the Sun (1968), The Soft Parade (1969), Morrison Hotel (1970), Absolutely Live (1970) and L.A. Woman (1971), with 20 Gold, 14 Platinum, 5 Multi-Platinum and 1 Diamond album awards in the United States alone.[9] By the end of 1971, it was reported that the Doors had sold 4,190,457 albums domestically and 7,750,642 singles.[10] The band had three million-selling singles in the U.S. with "Light My Fire", "Hello, I Love You" and "Touch Me". After Morrison's death in 1971, the surviving trio released two albums Other Voices and Full Circle with Manzarek and Krieger sharing lead vocals. The three members also collaborated on the spoken word recording of Morrison's An American Prayer in 1978 and on the "Orange County Suite" for a 1997 boxed set. Manzarek, Krieger and Densmore reunited in 2000 for an episode of VH-1's Storytellers and subsequently recorded Stoned Immaculate: The Music of The Doors with a variety of vocalists. Although the Doors' active career ended in 1973, their popularity has persisted. According to the RIAA, they have sold 33 million certified units in the US[11] and over 100 million records worldwide,[12] making them one of the best-selling bands of all time.[13] The Doors have been listed as one of the greatest artists of all time by many magazines, including Rolling Stone, which ranked them 41st on its list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time".[14] The Doors were the first American band to accumulate eight consecutive gold and platinum LP's.[15] In 2002, Manzarek and Krieger started playing together again, renaming themselves as the Doors of the 21st Century, with Ian Astbury of the Cult on vocals. Densmore opted to sit out and, along with the Morrison estate, sued the duo over proper use of the band's name and won. After a short time as Riders On the Storm, they settled on the name Manzarek-Krieger and continued to tour until Manzarek's death in 2013 at the age of 74. Three of the band's studio albums, the self-titled debut, L.A. Woman, and Strange Days, were featured in Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, at positions 42, 362, and 407 respectively. According to The Washington Post's Martin Weil, the band rose to the center of the counterculture of the 1960s.[16] The Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993. Morrison was found dead in a bathtub on July 3, 1971, in Paris by his girlfriend Pamela Courson.[71] Pursuant to French law, no autopsy was performed because the medical examiner claimed to have found no evidence of foul play.[citation needed] The absence of an official autopsy and the death certificate's having no reason of death besides heart failure, have left many questions regarding the cause of death. Morrison was buried in the "Poets' Corner" of Père Lachaise Cemetery on July 7. The epitaph on his headstone bears the Greek inscription "ΚΑΤΑ ΤΟΝ ΔΑΙΜΟΝΑ ΕΑΥΤΟΥ", literally meaning "According to his own daimōn" and usually interpreted as "True to his own spirit".[72][73] Morrison passed away at age 27, the same age as several other famous rock stars in the 27 Club. In 1974, Morrison's girlfriend Pamela Courson also died at the age of 27.[74]

Just WTF was Jimmy doin', smokin' in a gasoline station like that?! This just shows us that 60s were just a more fun time and everyone felt freer... I just love the 60s. Wish I was a teenager back then. Though the 90s and 200s were fun too...
