When I die and awaken from life's dream the second person I hope to see after my beloved husband is Gerry Rafferty. I lost Alan aged 27yrs. This music helped get me through some bad times. Gerry's life had lot's of sadness in many ways but out of it all came some wonderful music. He was truly blessed with a gift from the universe. All that experience went into such a great legacy for both his family and us his fan's, We are truly blessed.
Susan Keane
I loved everything about this LP from the artwork that was sensational to the music and voice of Gerry which was like sweet honey smooth and rich. Well I have listened to him since early days and Steeler's Wheel to his solo LPs with his band.I cannot believe its over thirty years since I first heard this. Gerry has gone but while his music is here HE is too. RIP to a troubled GENIUS. One of the 20th Centurys most special singer songwriters.

It's a shame that the great Gerry Rafferty never was recognised as a GREAT because he was and still is. His music was top quality and is as good today as ever.
Marie Jones
It was easy to relate to all his songs. Each one has a meaning for all of us. And for me loads of his songs.
a really top tune.....
Mark Berry
We have lost the talent in music, NOBODY can write a propper song anymore, with decent memorable tune, very, very sad.
Mark Parsons
his best song by a country mile, forget baker street
Toon Nufc
Morris McKinnon
This never gets played on the radio, songs like this never do for some reason. It's always Baker Street.. don't get me wrong, I love Baker Street and more but it's always the more well known songs that get played over and over again, probably why songs like Baker street are, well... so well known! Such good music out there that never get's heard, it's a shame.
Callum Taylor
Thank you, BBC Radio 2 :)
Chris Nemo
Simply timeless goood !
Jason Carpp
Awesome song! It's nice to hear a full length album version of Night Owl. I have a cd of Best of Gerry Rafferty, but most of the songs are edited down for radio play. I just recently bought the Night Owl cd and finally heard the full-length version. I've never understood why they edit a song just so that it can be played on radio.

I used to get the goosebumps when this came on the radio back in '79 when I was 13, and I still get the exact same reaction today. Only real music can do this to you, and evoke emotions from the first time you heard it.... God bless ya Gerry x
RIP pure genius

English proficient bassist Mo Foster on the bass. Not nearly as known as Pino or Jaco, but one that I like just as much! Love his basslines just as much as the other guys.
Great song, great artist, and a great loss.

@dmgcat Yes i've heard of sarcasm and can excell in it if you want me to,And no i wasn't born in 88 why was you?? And yes i can take a joke, but what you put did not come across as a joke.. As for being worked up im no where near it yet!!
R.I.P Gerry. sadly missed
Same for me mate; so many memories attached to this song, from so long ago.......
This is timeless, ethereal, wonderful........
Oh gosh I love this so much, reminds me of being a kid; my sister had this album and I remember her playing this particular track all the time. Such an atmospheric, beautiful, slightly melancholy song. Classic.♥♥
Pure magic.
That line"i should know better but i cant say no"...applies to most of us i feel Jim
Gerrys albums are worth getting for the cover art never mind the great music Jim
This is great songwriting....there are few in the pop/rock age who can surpass this...if you have heard Whatevers written in your heart you might agree Jim

I love most of Rafferty's work (Solo, Stealers Wheel, Humblebums). I'd say the album Night Owl is still his most accomplished work. Caught him at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall back in Feb '93. He was superb and his band were great (Jerry Donahue, Hugh Burns on guitars, Kenny Craddock on organ and Liam Genocky on drums and a few others.) It's about time some of his solo albums got the sonic overhaul. His excellent debut Can I Have My Money Back? was remastered but some haven't been done yet.
David Cook
@Jojoseahorse Yeah he hails from the Town of Paisley, near Glasgow. I may be wrong but i think him and Joe Egan (both in Stealers Wheel) grew up in a housing scheme called Ferguslie Park, which was the title of SW's second album. (David.)
David Cook
@Jojoseahorse No worries. Oh right you live in the Big Apple, cool. I actually came across a guy's site the other day that had old photos taken of FP back in the mid 80's before it was flattened and redeveloped. If you go to Wikipedia and type in Ferguslie Park it will give you some info about the area. I remember when i saw Gerry in concert back in '93 someone in the crowd shouted out that he was from Glasgow but he was quick to point out he was from Paisley (obviously proud of his home Town).
